Defensively we are a total shambles, but what do you expect when we have so many attack minded players in the team

For me I'd like to see Balbuena back v Everton plus Obiang alongside Rice, have a bit more solidity in the centre of the park.

Antonio was also terrible so I'd hook him for Nasri

Fabianski
Fredericks
Balbuena
Diop
Cresswell
Rice
Obiang
Nasri
Anderson
Lanzini
Hernandez

It's pointless basing your opinion of a manager on one season. Roeder got 7th in his first season. Zola got 8th from memory.

Pellers is 9th and people are complaining.

Football is not Championship Manager. You don't just spend money and get immediate results. Often filling a team with expensive new players means that the team takes longer to reach its potential because there's been so much surgery to the squad.

People explained that back when we'd lost our first 4 games, then again when we were struggling in the bottom half, and yet now that we're in the top half of the table the moaners are still complaining.

I imagine if we finish the season 7th, the moaners will just go quiet rather that admit that they might have been wrong.

no, you're confusing a 'love in' with not wanting the manager replaced every 6-12 months. john, I still think it's difficult to judge a manager when the squad still lacks depth in certain areas and he's only been at the club since last summer. the next transfer window is another of those moments where the board need to back the manager and finish the job in regard to refreshing the squad. every time we've had one of these moments during my lifetime, whoever has been in charge has come up short. the latest shit coming out of their propaganda sites tells me they have no intention of finishing the job and we'll again be short of quality in certain areas and selling on our best players once they realise the lack of ambition

I am not basing it on anything other than a personal opinion that I feel comfortable that when we lose he knows why and works on it.

Rather than a lot of previous managers who I believe don't have a clue why we lost and don't know what to do about it.

It's a bit of a sweeping statement you make "The poor performances and results have been on-gong for months now, so why hasn't he fixed it yet resolved it?".

Poor performances going on for months? What you mean the results that were in between all those really good results like drawing at home to Liverpool, beating Fulham, beating Newcastle.

Or as you have said "months" I assume you mean several so do you want to go back to December? Where we won 5 out of 7 and then picked up 4 points against Brighton and Arsenal?

I mean, for fuck sake, are you literally expecting us to put out decent performances every single game?

agreed, my mate said MP is turning us into a mini man city, good to watch Lanzini, Nasri and Anderson on the pitch at the same time, until you lose the ball, they had a 4 v 2 when their fella skied that chance at 3-3.

still its entertaining :)

Alvin,

The bottom 3 would need to win all their remaining games and us lose them to be even remotely worried about getting relegated on 42 points.

I think that is a lot of where the defensive problems lie.

Pellegrini at Man City, played Javi Garcia, Fernando and Fernandinho along side Toure in the midfield two. The first three were stay at home Rice-like players.

Toure at that point was athletic enough to do what he wanted and still cover the position. Mark Noble for all the good he had done for the club never had that ability and certainly does not now.

We are never going to get a Toure at our level, if ever, so do we go for two dedicated holding midfielders?

42 points?
Relegated in 2003 with that

love the thought of those moaning their heads off when the 3rd Hudd goal went in and leaving the ground and missing one our best ever comebacks

Clubs money is made by being in the Premier league. Have a chat with Wigan and Portsmouth fans to see what position they'd rather be in, cup winners one year or still in the Prem.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Huddersfield - Official Match Thread 4-3FT
with the back four you need your CM's to be there holding, but Noble seemed to be playing further forward leaving Rice on his own. Huddersfield were playing one simple ball to get thru us, like their 3rd goal.

still...MP has done well, we're easily safe, we've got some good young players. he'll have a plan for next season which i think we be keeping the ball better and getting shot of people who cant do that.

Every team that visits us works it’s socks off regardless of their tactical set up. And that is a quality that sometimes this season we seem to lack at the start. It’s an interesting stat that points out we are one of the best teams at winning points from a losing situation. It might indicate a fighting spirit but it really points to the opposition starting better than us.

Pellegrini needs to address this state of affairs

Defensively we are a shambles again for whatever reason. We can score goals but we are not what you would call a tough but to crack.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Huddersfield - Official Match Thread 4-3FT
TM, I certainly don’t expect top performance every week I do however expect us to beat a team bottom of the 3rd division in the FA cup.
I also fully expect us to be bearing Burnley Bournemouth ( both who were on a horrendous run when we played them) Brighton and Cardiff .
I don’t get the love in the majority on here have for him, the football is better but so it should be with the massive investment but as I’ve said before if the other team don’t come to play we’re fucked.
The slow strarts are a worrying trend and you have to question what the fuck is going on in the dressing room when they come out like the walking dead after a heavy night .

Really? The poor performances and results have been ongong for months now, so why hasn't he fixed it yet resolved it?

You are giving him way too much credit imo based on very little.

An excellent post Surface. Accurate too I'm certain.

I think this summer will see a massive change when we should lose about 10 players from the 1st team squad. It's how those 10 are replaced that will determine the progress and I hope the board back him.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Huddersfield - Official Match Thread 4-3FT
Pellegrini has clearly been tasked with improving results while playing a more attractive attacking brand of football than that which was so seriously alienating the fans, culminating in the Burnley incident.

For the most part he has done that. Results have improved and few would seriously dispute that the football is better. However, the dross at the bottom has cottoned on to this and now set up against us like they would against the top clubs. In other words, they set up to kick the shit out of us and nick a goal or two from set pieces and on the break.

Pellegrini's next task is to get his players to recognise that this is now what they must expect and to adapt to that change, born as it is out of relative success. I have some confidence that he will succeed in this. This is what the rest of the season is for.

We have now reached the situation whereby our players, particularly our midfielders and attackers, must be able to play football AND work their nuts off, like players at the top clubs do. We have a lot of creative players and a few honest toilers, the problem is that we have very few that can do both. Those that can do both cost a lot of money.

I like Pelle but the jury is still out. The slow starts are getting silly now, as is the lack of motivation vs the lower clubs.
I hope he fixes this nonsense, pronto.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Huddersfield - Official Match Thread 4-3FT
I think its absolutely right to question the performance. When you are at home to the team bottom of the league and the players realise they are taking in a match in the 75th minute then obviously you have to question that.

But, I am 100% behind MP and confident that he will resolve the issues. I don't think I have even been as comfortable when we lose than I have with MP as manager because I know he has the ability to realise what went wrong and resolve it.

Plus, behind that calm and dignified manner, he is as seething as us fans when we lose. He just isn't a jumped up hysterical twat like Klopp for example.

The problem also, is that its a long season. And any West Ham fan that thinks we are going to put in top performances every week are not living in reality.

john, you want top performances every week. that never happened under lyall and £100m is about the same as what wolves spent and they're only two points better off. you hate the manager, there's nothing more to it than that

rochesterjohn 10:10 Sun Mar 17
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Huddersfield - Official Match Thread 4-3FT
We’ve spent £100m, 9th is the absolute minimum.
